Former Mayor Jose Luis De La Ossa will be the grand marshal of the 2005 Nogales Veterans' Day parade. Former Mayor Jose Luis De La Ossa will be the Grand Marshal of the 2005 Nogales Veterans' Day parade. The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., at the U.S. Post Office on Morley Avenue, travel south to Karam Park and then north on Grand Avenue to the Pep Boys parking lot. A ceremony will be held at the Memorial Wall at city hall. Food and refreshments will be served at Teyechea Park following the ceremony, a spokesman said. Active in Nogales De La Ossa was born in Lochiel, Ariz., and attended Patagonia Union High School. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge at Fort Smith, Ark. De La Ossa, now a city councilman, is married to Estella and they have two children, Eduvijis and Jose Luis Jr. De La Ossa worked for the City of Nogales for seven years in the Public Works Department, then began a career as a firefighter where he was appointed Fire Chief under three different administrations. As Fire Chief, he was instrumental in providing ambulance service to Nogales through the Nogales Fire Department. He has served as vice-president of "Christmas in April." He is a member of the Elks Club Lodge No. 1397, American Legion Post No. 23 and is a committee member of the Santa Cruz Veterans' Memorial Wall. |
