One Rio Rico female golfer took first place in a Mexican invitational tournament.

Martha Felix was one of 21 women golfers from Rio Rico, Kino Springs and Sierra Vista golf clubs that recently traveled to Ciudad Obregon, Mexico to attend the 12th annual Torneo Regional de Golf Feminil tournament. The four-day event, with a Mexico women's golf club as host, is open to only a few Southern Arizona golf clubs, Judy Baumbach, Kino Springs member said.

Martha Felix of Rio Rico took first place overall; Nanci Pottinger won closest to the pin and third overall; and Mary Davidson took third place in her flight.

In all, 144 golfers participated in the tourney. Other cities represented in the tournament were Mazatlan, Obregon, Mexicali, Hermosillo, Culiacan, Tijuana and San Carlos. The honorable Eduardo Bours, Governor of Sonora, putted out the first ball during opening ceremonies, which included a Mexican band.

"The kickoff ceremony is very formal, and included a helicopter landing governor Bours," Nanci Pottinger said.
