Kino Park Trees

Open Graves at Kino Park

OMG! WTF, CON?!

What in blazes is going on within the City of Nogales that would result in the desecration of decades old beautiful and majestic trees? It’s bad enough we see buildings like the Sainz house (Morley Avenue) get torn down because a friend of a friend of a friend decided to give someone a permit allowing them to do so, but this? Who’s brilliant idea was it to tear down the trees at Kino Park? Trees that have been there since long before I was born, and should have still been there long after my passing!

This is an outrage! It’s an eyesore! It’s just downright preposterous! Citizens of Santa Cruz County speak up! How can we allow this kind of outrageous thinking and governing to continue? This is affecting many of us citizens in a personal manner. Is this part of some grand scheme to eliminate any beautification of Nogales? Does anyone really know what’s going on? What else do we have to look forward to? Who’s idea was this?! Might as well tear down Padre Kino while they’re at it. It’s not like there is any historical value to it, right? It’s truly sickening! Looking upon the desecration of such beauty, one might think they were looking upon open graves. This is what’s left.

I grew up playing under those trees with my friends and family—as I’m sure many other citizens of this county have. I took my children to play in that park, as well. Decades and generations have graced the soil that held those roots so tightly. What’s next? How about tearing down that beautiful willow tree that gently touches the fountain in front of the City Hall? After all, the willow that used to stand so majestically once upon a time at Kino Park was incredible and beautiful, and there were no qualms in tearing that one down, either!

What kind of forewarning was given to us citizens that we could have prevented such an atrocity from happening? I don’t recall any invitation to “Save Kino Park.” Next time, how about really thinking it out before tearing up/down? Let us in on it. Let us hear the voice of reason before it becomes a voice of unreason! What’s next on the agenda for the governing board of the CON? Dare we ask?

" I cannot BELIEVE they took out those most beautiful trees of Nogales. I am LIVID. Whose brilliant idea was that? We need a darn good reason why. Nogales needs trees and greenery..THIS certainly doesn't help any. I would almost drive off of the road looking at them in the most beautiful Fall Foliage. Why can't the workers of Nogales do something to make Nogales better with their energy like PICK up All THE GARBAGE. That's IT- I am MOVING "

Oh well. Glad I am gone. "

Too bad about the trees but..... wrote on Apr 22, 2009 2:13 AM:

" Sorry, don't mean to be synical, but what park?? Nogales does not have a single decent park, so to call a landscaped parking lot a park, please! My tax money must be fattening up someone's wallet, because it sure hasn't been used to build one decent park or recreational facility that my family can use. "

" ok, i did see that yes they are doing it to clean nogales BUT i still think unless the big beautiful trees were dead or the roots were growing so immensely that they were going to cause problems underground then "they?" could have taken them out. Resident Too, you were rite, a bunch of tiny trees were planted, which could have just been added around with out removing any others...but what do i know huh. "

" I would have to say that I agree with these other fellow concerned citizens. When I saw that the trees at Kino Park were being cut down I was in shock! Why would anyone do anything like that??? My children and I too used to enjoy hot summer days at that park underneath the trees eating icees. I was asked by them two days ago why the trees had been cut down, all I could answer was "I don't know." Extremely disappointed!!!!! "

" Y,Y,Y, Nogales only has a hand full of beautiful things and that beautiful Park was one of them.
Wow I cannot belive that. "

" Everyone is ending up sounding like a broken record, but I too, want to know why?!?! Who would conjure up such a crazy idea? All I want is a logicable explanation as to why. I see those trees on a daily basis, and they've always added lively-ness to Nogales for some reason. For visitors coming through Patagonia, the park is the first thing they see of Nogales. Now all there is, is scattered orange cones and plenty of dirt. It's seems pretty hypocrtitical actually. I see posters around town saying to "clean up Nogales" and "Keep the air clean". As most people learned way back in the second grade, trees help the enviornment. Wow, big surprise there! Who knew that trees can provide more oxygen, thus more breathing air, adjust temperature climates, create beautiful scenery, and be part of a learning experience! This entire situation is just saddening.... "

" so sad, I still dont know whats going on at the park, does anyone have answeres?? "

" I didn't know that these trees were taken down, it really doesn't make any sense. We used to enjoy the shade that was provided during hot summer days, even rainy ones.
I do believe that many meories were shared at this park, the least the city government can do is give an explanation to the reason behind this if none has been given yet.
Citizens need to start taking action and attend the town hall meetings. We also need for our parks to be beautified with what they already include. "

" I was in shock when I saw the trees had been cut. Were they sick? I recall the trees being green and giving plenty of shade last spring and summer. I don't understand the reasoning behind the butchering of these trees. The city has to answer to its citizens. When travelers come off of Route 82 they would see the green grass and the tall green trees at Kino Park. Now they see an ugly eyesore that was once an asset to our city. Why, that is all I want to know. "

" Can't belive it. Way to go Nogales!! Oh, maybe the president will order to buy bigger trees with the "new toy" of NPD arsenal. Bet you this will not happen as he will take all the money for himself. "

Resident Too wrote on Apr 10, 2009 9:13 AM:

" They will probably buy some tiny trees for the park, just like the ones @ the new Camp Little Park on Western Avenue. How will they pay for it? Watch them create some bogus fund called city beautification! Yes, indeed, totally self directed, it's only our money. Do they care? "

" Right on! So typical of the City of Nogales. "
