DPS finds 5,027 pounds of marijuana in produce truck

On May 4, at about 9:30 p.m., DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau Officers inspected a truck with Mexican plates. The inspection was on Mariposa Road one mile north of the Mariposa Port of Entry. Officers discovered the license plate was fictitious and the driver was unable to produce a log book.

The vehicle was originally loaded in Mexico, although the driver indicated he was taking a load of produce into Mexico.

A search revealed bundles of marijuana hidden with a bell peppers. The marijuana weghed 5,027 pounds. The driver, 34, is a Mexican national from Sonora, Mexico. He was arrested and faces charges of transportation of marijuana.
