Hilltop Gallery summer art program set to start June 8

The "Languages of Art' is the theme of the Summer Art Program at Hilltop Gallery.


The terms and techniques of art will be explored through language from Spanish to French to Russian to English through stories and Art Activities. The classes will be conducted in English and Spanish by program director Jessica Valencia. The program is co- sponsored by the Nogales Recreation Department and Hilltop Gallery.

The program will begin on June 8 with three sessions each day for six weeks.

The first session for youngsters from 5-7 years old will be held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. The second session for youngsters 8 to 11 years old will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The third session for 12 to 15 year old youth will be from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. each afternoon.  Each class will be limited to 33 students. The classes will continue five days a week until July 17.

Signing up

Registration is at the city Recreation Department on Hohokam Drive from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. A registration fee is required for each child; however, there is no extra cost for the classes. 

Jessica Valencia is completing her Master’s program in Bilingual Education at the University of Arizona.  Jennifer Valencia, a senior at the University of Arizona, is also on the staff as well as Stephanie Valencia, Alma Piña and Anna Valencia. They will plan and direct the art activities emphasizing the Languages of Art.
