I applaud Ms. Scott for speaking out about the often ignored costs of the illegal drug trade. As a former English teacher in Los Angeles, I too have read students’ harrowing first hand accounts of families being torn apart by arrests and murder because of connections with drugs. As Ms. Scott aptly points out, the drug trade will continue despite the exorbitant amount of resources expended in fighting it.  The impetus for this violent black market is not drugs, but drug money. Until we end the war on drugs through regulation instead of prohibition, our nation’s youth will remain in danger, as their parents and neighbors continue to succumb to the temptation of the drug trade’s illicit profits.

The kiilings and all the violence that goes around is due to the "drug money," but many people have choices to make. Just like you had the choice to educate, we should all educate the youth on the use, misuse, abuse, and the dangers of all drufs, expecially marijuana and prescription meddication.
We all have a great role in society, but everyone looks at the government for the answer. the answer is education, and mentorship. I'd rather fight for prevention than to need an intervention.
People, is is not what the government can do for you, it is using the government's resources to aid and educate our youth. Do not forget that teachers are a number one source of information... decide to good chamge!!! "
