The Rio Rico Fire District has received funding from the Union Pacific Foundation to support its Fire Safety House Program. Last fiscal year Union Pacific provided funds for the start-up of the newly acquired fire safety trailer enabling the district to “take the show on the road.”

It reached thousands of young people with hands-on fire safety training through appearances at the county fair, the Rio Rico Festival, several local grand openings and elementary schools throughout the county. This year $5,000 was granted to expand the program with new enhancements such as puppetry, music, videos and take-home educational material. “Children learn and retain valuable lessons through fun-filled lessons that could result in saving property and lives,” said firefighter and Public Education Specialist Leilani Salazar. “We are grateful to Union Pacific for supporting such a worthy cause.” The check was presented to RRFD by Luis Heredia, Director of Public Affairs for Union Pacific Railroad.
