It is no secret that I’m a big fan of Betty Barr’s book about the area. I tell anyone with ears about the book. But I just have to wonder how many of us “old-timers” are wondering why they didn’t write a book because many of the subjects were still with us as little as 25 years ago or sooner.

I personally have written several poetic eulogies for members of this community, however, I did not write a book either, even when my dad, old Slim talked about and knew the history, the people, how they came to be here, how families were related and interconnected through and throughout. I heard a million stories, but I guess I was too busy with Aerosmith, etc. When Ronnie Pyeait came by to visit with old Slim, they talked about everything could have recorded and written it. With their wit and humor the stories may have been a little off color but, indeed, a hoot.

I guess the secret’s out; I’m lazy, too! I could just kick myself!

But we were lucky. It took Betty to do it for us and thank god for her and her hard work and that she took an interest in telling our stories. Thanks Betty, more power to you.
