A Border Patrol agent was treated and released from University Medical Center in Tucson after rolling a government vehicle following a collision with a bear shortly after midnight on Sept. 25.

“The cause of the collision on SR 82 was the vehicle attempted to avoid an animal in the roadway,” said Officer Mehr. “At this time no citations have been issued.”
A Border Patrol spokesperson said the vehicle was a Border Patrol K-9 unit. The spokesperson said the dog was “OK.”
Wildlife Manager Diane Tilton of Arizona Game and Fish Department said the black bear was likely killed upon impact.
Volunteers from Patagonia Fire and Rescue also responded to the accident.
