Outraged taxpayer

I called Fuentes' office and was told he "stepped out" - I asked when he would be stepping "back in" and was told Monday.   Beautiful, he's out right when taxes go out. One would think this would be an important time  to be in the office - but not if you don't want to hear your phone ringing off the hook from outraged taxpayers. Common sense would dictate that now would not be a good time to "step out", but then again we are talking about Nogales where common sense is not so common.
Add to this 10% school tax that is on your tax bill and then another possible 10-15% additional for next year depending on the November override vote. It's not like Santa Cruz County is graduating potential Harvard candidates out of these schools. "Would you like to supersize that order?" seems to be more the norm.
Let's hold these supervisors accountable. This is an open call for John Maynard to meet with the residents of Sonoita and address this tax situation - and please, make sure you don't "step out" on us too!

Where did you go to college? DeVry? ITT? Despite your higher-than-thou commentary I highly doubt you have an Ivy League education.
Apparently you don't value education at all. There are plenty of kids graduating from Santa Cruz County schools who are going on to college and doing great things. Every community in the US has kids who go to continue their education and kids who wind up in dead end job, Nogales may have many unique qualities but this is not one of them. By the way, SCC schools have produced students who have gone on to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Yale, Duke, UVirginia and other top schools around the country. Many kids in Nogales remain at universities in state because they cannot go out of state for financial reasons. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with going to the U of A, Arizona State, or Northern Arizona. You are right, common sense does not always prevail in Nogales, take a close look in the mirror and you will see a major culprit in the battle against it. "

You really don't understand. Property taxes have no direct relation to income taxes. I talked to the assessor's office. The assessment rates are based on 5 years of sales, starting with 2007 and going back 5 years. So current assessments cover the peak sales years for property. "

Two things that are for sure, Death and Taxes. Many times at about this time in the year, The first happens right after one reads the second.
There is no such thing as a good tax. Unless you get the mindset of accepting that there are no free lunches. Everything has a cost, and taxes pickup those tabs. We used to have less taxes.
I was born in 1938, so I go back to when we had iron men and wooden ships.
Local communities used to own their own water, Electricity, and gas. Those business made good money for the communities, and helped pick up the tab, thus lowering the taxes. We had small business' such as bakers, butchers, general clothing stores, hardware stores etc.
they no longer exist! In come the Corporations somehow, they ended up with our water, electricity, gas, etc. Walmart and Kmart, and, Safeway, etc showed up Over the last 60 years, All of the little business' earned a good liviing, payed more than their share of the costs encumbered by the community, as well as created wealth within the community.
Now, the corporations own it all. Thanks to the Republicans. The money spends little or no time within our community. It goes from the "Big Boxes" to an armored car, and is sent off to Tucson. So now where does a community create its wealth? Taxes on it's people. All the costs have been transferred to the individual. Unless we take back our wealth, (land, skills, small business, water, etc) it can and will not change.
Taxes will continue to climb, or our infrastructure, will rot!
Sorry about the taxes, but I saw it comming as the Republicans pushed the taxes down and down to lower levels.
You know, you cut Trillions in taxes for the wealthy and corporations, the costs that that income use to cover, still exists, and thus is pushed down to the next lower levels. As a result, the States or more poor, Counties are more poor, and communities, are flat broke. Quite honestly, it is exactly what is going on today. "
