Meet a goblin at Teyechea Park Saturday night

On Halloween night, Oct. 31, Teyechea Park behind City Hall will rock with the sounds of Michael Jackson videos and the laughter of children bouncing and sliding on inflatable castles.

The City of Nogales is inviting children to come in costume from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday for its annual Halloween party. Kids can get free treats at city hall, go for a train ride and navigate an obstacle course in the park, said mayor’s assistant Victor Mendez. The Nogales International will show the videos on a large screen.

Parking at city hall will be cordoned off to prevent cars from driving close to the children who attend, Mendez said. Families will have to park on nearby streets or in lots.

Police officers will be at the park to check candy that trick-or-treaters have collected, said Chief William Ybarra. But other officers will watch for smugglers who might take advantage of the distraction of Halloween festivities to move their loads, he said.

“In past years, we’ve had some egg-throwing at cars, but last year, it was calm,” Ybarra said. “I’m hoping a lot of kids will come to the party.”
