With a strike looming in less than 24 hours late Thursday evening, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99 reached a tentative settlement on a new contract with Safeway, Inc. and the Kroger Company, which owns Fry’s Food Stores.

Local 99 had called for a strike at 6 p.m. Nov. 13. Now it will submit the tentative collective bargaining agreement to its Safeway and Fry’s members, according to the joint statement. The union will not release any details until its members have a chance to review and vote on the contract.
