Nogales honors its veterans of war By Manuel C. CoppolaWhile World War II veterans were recognized as co-grand marshals of Wednesday’s parade, a moment of silence also was held during the ensuing ceremony in honor of the 13 U.S. Army servicemen who died Nov. 6 at Fort Hood, Texas, in an unprovoked attack by a distraught soldier. While the parade with its many participants was festive, the ceremony, as the occasion called for, was solemn with one of the largest crowds in attendance in recent years. The Nogales Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion were in charge of arrangements for the day, which culminated with free refreshments and snacks at the VFW Hall. |
