The Patagonia VFW Turkey Shoot, is scheduled Nov. 22 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and will offer sportsmen not only an opportunity to bag a frozen gobbler but also a chance to test their skills while supporting a worthwhile cause.� 

Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10432 the turkey shoot is a target competition and not a hunt, said organizer Bill Piper. He said that the VFW has 32 turkeys to give away this year. Contestants pay a $5 registration fee that allows them to compete in events that include the Open Pistol Shoot, Jug Shoot, and 100 Yard Rifle Shoot, Skeet Shoot. The American Legion Post 111 will also be on hand with homemade refreshments.� 

Piper said the monies brought in during the competition help pay for Christmas sacks that are distributed to children at local schools. “The sacks are filled with apples, tangerines, nuts, and candy,” he said.� 

To get to the range, head to the southwest town limits of Patagonia and look for the “Turkey Shoot” signage that will be posted just south off State Route 82.
