New fire stations in Rio Rico boosted the total for construction permits in Santa Cruz County to $8,908,935.80 in October. They accounted for $4.8 million. The remainder – porches, swimming pools, new homes, barns and additions – came to about $4.1 million, much lower than the $6.59 million in permits for October 2006, when construction was booming.
