Clear and to the point

Published Tuesday, December 15, 2009 9:44 AM MST

I am appalled at the opinions recently printed in regards to the Dec. 4 NI article: “Mayor defends $324 paid for movie tickets.” To mislead the community and imply that I did something wrong or to make out the impression of being caught red-handed without providing any proven facts is straight out ridiculous and unprofessional. Calling the movie tickets “bogus” shows the lack of research and commitment to provide an accurate and balanced story. Two city employees were present when Oasis Town Cinema Manager first said she would donate the tickets for the Halloween event and then asked us to go pick them up, in which a former assistant of mine did. The article being referred to fails to put in statements from either employee but manages to paint a one-sided story, no surprise there. Oasis Town Cinema invoiced the City of Nogales (Invoice #41) for 50 movie tickets that apparently, according to their Manager, were never given out. I am asking myself the same question: Why deny giving 50 movie tickets to the City of Nogales and then invoice them for the amount of $324.50? (Copies available)

This administration strives to make every event bigger and better for our community. This year´s Halloween event proved to be just that. It has been estimated over 4,000 children participated in this year’s City of Nogales Halloween event. We hosted them with three jumping castles, one choo-choo train, an outside big movie screen, 300 cotton candy bags, 30 gallons of “champurro,” 700 “churros,” 700 hot dogs w/chips, 700 bags of candy, and, yes, 50 MOVIE TICKETS. I want to thank the Nogales City Council, the Nogales Police and Fire departments, staff and all community members who participated with contributions and made this event an unforgettable one.

Mayor Octavio

Garcia-Von Borstel

" The Mayor's true interst in his position is to use it to get elected to the State Legislature. If you look at it from that stand point, his actions are perfectly understandable. "

" Mr. Garcia, are you kidding me? I’m staring to wonder what level of education our Mayor has… he truly believes that his actions are correct and warrant justification. Next time that we go to vote, please fellow Nogalians, stop and think, vote with a conscious, don’t vote because he is popular or because I don’t like the other candidate base on personality. Many citizens have stated that they did not Vote for this individual for Mayor, is true, but they voted him into the council and this allowed him to orchestrate a process to buy him self into the Mayor’s seat. This kind of politicians are not needed in our government, we need people that are truthful and crystal clear, individuals that have no hidden agendas or personal gain goals with the sole interest of serving their community and be vigilant of the residents of this great city. All of his administration has been about the “Mayor” only, ignoring the council and the city administration, he has what we know as the “Yo-yo Syndrome” the ones who believe that the whole universe evolves around them.
