Each month the Rio Rico Rotary Club honors a teacher and a student from one of the schools in Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 in Rio Rico. The school also receives a case of paper from the Rio Rico Rotary Club.

On Dec. 9, Calabasas Middle School was honored. Principal David Verdugo introduced the Student of the Month, Areana Villaescusa, who is in the 7th grade. Verdugo then introduced the Feature Teacher, Megan Allen, who is an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher for grades 6-8.
