As Valentine’s Day draws near I send many hugs and heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff of the Santa Cruz Humane Society: Irma. Maria, Freddie, and JC. They have been the strength that has held the place together as one dysfunctional board after another has come and gone.

Their demonstration of professional etiquette, common courtesy and kindness to donors and volunteers sets a positive example that should be modeled by others involved in charitable organizations.
Their encouragement, respect and enthusiastic support for volunteers fosters a positive culture and nurtures new ideas and teamwork.
Their tireless dedication to the welfare of the animals shows that they understand the mission of SCHS. Furthermore, their respectful treatment of people shows that they understand the importance of sustaining volunteers and donors to SCHS.
The staff at SCHS exemplifies leadership traits and professionalism that are sorely lacking at the board level of some charitable organizations.
I confidently speak for many when I thank them for their unwavering commitment to the animals in their care in good times and in bad.
