The 4th of July celebrations around Santa Cruz County went off with a bang Wednesday. Despite the heat - it was one of the hottest days of the year - folks flocked to events in Tubac, Patagonia and Nogales. Patagonia's eclectic group of performers kept attendees entertained once the revelry of the morning parade had died. In Tubac, people came out for the free hot dogs, watermelons and games in the morning, and a fantastic fireworks show in the evening. In Nogales, the largest crowd in recent memory showed up for an event distinctive of our bicultural city. Tacos quashed hunger, mariachis spurred dancers and Mayor Ignacio J. Barraza congratulated Miss 4th of July Yuliana Munoz, while fireworks shot off and a recording of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" blared over the loudspeaker. Happy 4th of July! We'll see ya next year.
