The San Felipe de Jesus parish in Nogales will host its annual fiesta on the weekend of Oct. 20 and 21.
The event will feature food, games for children, music and entertainment, and will run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 7 p.m to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The lineup of entertainment includes the Bebechones del Norte; jazz by Abstract from Rio Rico; trova by Armando Gonzalez and Gerardo Soto; baile folklorico by Lourdes Academy and Wade Carpenter Middle School; Mariachi Aguila; Luna y Sol Dance Academy, and an art exhibit by Studio Guerrero.
The fiesta began after the Diocese of Tucson granted the parish designation, and parishioners organized this event with the purpose to raise funds to build the church. Now, with the church built, the tradition lives on.
“Our first pastor Jose Gallego started this fiesta that has become a tradition that unites our community,” organizers said in a news release.
The parish has experienced several changes this past year, including the assignation of two new priests: Rev. Bardo F. Antunez, the pastor, and Rev. Luis Armando Espinoza, the parochial vicar.
“We now have a parish office administrator that runs our daily parish business and many more things that have made our parish a better place to be,” the parish said.
San Felipe de Jesus parish is at 1901 North Jose Gallego Drive.
