A 94-year-old woman was arrested while trying to cross into the United States at the Morley Pedestrian Gate with 10 ½ lbs. of marijuana strapped to her body, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said Wednesday.
According to a CBP news release, border agents became suspicious of the woman as she tried to cross into Nogales on Tuesday, reportedly for a day of shopping. A secondary inspection revealed six packets of marijuana strapped to her torso and legs, CBP said.
The marijuana has an estimated street value of $5,250, the agency said.
The woman, a resident of Nogales, Sonora was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for further investigation, the news release said.
