The AZ Champions FC, Nogales 02 Silver boys soccer team participated in the 2011 CDO Classic held December 9-11.
On Dec 10, Champions competed against one of the hosting teams, the CDO Fireducks. Nogales defeated CDO 7-0.
Later that day, Champions faced CDO Kaos. Nogales defeated them 4-0.
Heading into Sunday and the third game of the tournament on Dec 11, Nogales faced Tucson rival the Fort Lowell Gunners. Gunners defeated Champs with a final score of 4-0. Later in the afternoon, Nogales competed as second seed against first seed Tucson Gunners for the Championship game. Nogales played very well the first half of the game, but it was the second half where they fell short and lost to Gunners 4-0 and ended in runner-up status, with a silver medal.
"AZ Champs proved they can play competitive soccer," coach Adrian Garcia said. "I am pleased and proud on their efforts and accomplishments and looking forward to the spring season of the Pima County Junior Soccer League where they will be improving on their skills and competing against other talented teams.
"I want to express my appreciation to the players and parents," he added, "for their dedication and support of the future (Nogales High) Apaches."
