The AZ Champions FC – 04 Champs soccer team went 3-0-1 earlier in the month on its way to winning the U8 Gold Pima Cup title in Tucson on March 4.

The team, consisting of players from Nogales and Rio Rico, beat TSA 04 Red Boys 4-3 in a shoot out to win the championship.

TSA 04 Red Boys is considered to be one of Tucson’s elite U8 teams. Despite that, AZ Champions FC also beat them 3-1 earlier in the day before tying Tucson Aztecs Red 3-3 and beating the TMSFC Red Thundercats 3-1 the day before.

“They had a lot of fun,” said player parent Jose Rubio. “The kids are really going to remember this.”

Those kids are Jorge Leon, Ruben Ruiz, Sebastian Martinez, Ivan Rubio, Jose Rubio Jr., Jose Luis Aguirre, Marco Amador, Diego Contreras, Diego Duran, Nicolas Garcia, Diego Garcia, Andy Barraza, Ramon Perez, Andre Roiz, Alec Peral and Gustavo Duran. The team is coached by Ricardo Hinds.

“We want to express our appreciation to the parents and coaches for their dedication and support in the development process of these future athletes,” Hinds said. “We are extremely proud of them.”
