Two soon-to-be Nogales High School graduates were awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Santa Cruz County Cowbelle Scholarship Program.
Julieta Andrea Ortega is set to graduate from NHS with a 3.05 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Arizona with a major in agribusiness management with an emphasis in equine science.
She is the daughter of Ramiro Ortega and Melitza Sainz.
Samantaha Thwaits was poised to graduate from NHS with a 4.532 weighted GPA. She plans to attend the University of Arizona and major in philosophy.
She is the daughter of Thomas and Marcela Thwaits.
The Santa Cruz County Cowbelles is an organization of cattle women who promote beef and ranching. They offer scholarships each year to local students who are either actively involved in ranching, or who demonstrate their support for the beef or agricultural industry.
“Congratulations to all the scholarship applicants,” the Cowbelles said in an announcement. “We wish you success in your educational and career goals.”
