Two graduating high school seniors from Santa Cruz County were recently awarded scholarships by the Green Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association.
Lt. Col. Cadet Meriel Yanez, a four-year member of the Army JROTC program at Rio Rico High School, and Briana Cuevas, a cadet major in the Air Force JROTC program at Nogales High School, each received $1,500 awards from the association.
Cuevas plans to begin her studies at Pima Community College, then transfer to the University of Arizona and major in criminal justice.
Yanez will be major in psychology at Northern Arizona University with the goal of eventually working in behavioral health with special needs students.
The students were presented their awards by Joe Longo, president of the Green Valley MOA, and Col. Marianne Rogers Faust, U.S. Air Force (Ret.).
