The National Weather Service is planning a training session for Skywarn weather spotters in Patagonia as it seeks volunteers to report severe weather conditions during the upcoming monsoon season.

The free training session, which lasts approximately an hour and a half, is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, May 13 at the Patagonia Town Hall, 319 McKeown Ave.

All ages are welcome, though the NWS suggests a parent supervise adolescents who have an interest in weather.

Weather spotters will be taught to identify severe weather and what to report to the National Weather Service.

“Being a trained Skywarn spotter is 100-percent voluntary and there is no special equipment required, just your eyes,” the NWS said in an announcement.

While there is no need to register for the May 13 training, those with questions can contact Ken Drozd or Emily Carpenter at (520) 670-6526.
