County search and rescue coordinator Victor Coss, right, checks out the scene where the first of two bodies was found Friday.

County Search and Rescue officials discovered the body of an adult male in the Santa Cruz River approximately 10 miles north of the international border Friday morning.

A cadre of fire and law enforcement personnel had been searching for the body of a woman washed away by floodwaters in Nogales, Sonora Tuesday, but there was no official report of a missing adult male.

The woman’s body has not been found.

The body of 41-year-old Nogales, Sonora resident Laura Esther Contreras Vásquez was discovered in Nogales, Sonora Tuesday afternoon shortly after she was reportedly overwhelmed by floodwaters in her vehicle on Avenida Tecnologico.

The adult male’s body, which had not yet been recovered by mid-morning Friday, was stuck in a tree on the bank. Clothing had been stripped off of the corpse, which did not appear to show significant signs of decomposition.

Due to the graphic nature of the scene, the NI will not publish images of the body in the Santa Cruz River.
