A Border Patrol agent has been arrested for allegedly pouring hot coffee on his wife’s arm during a domestic dispute.
Raul Perez, 36, has been charged with aggravated domestic violence and disorderly conduct stemming from the alleged incident Monday in Rio Rico. As of Tuesday morning he was still being held at the Santa Cruz County jail awaiting his initial appearance in front of a judge.
At 12:26 p.m. Monday, a woman calling from Rio Rico told Santa Cruz County dispatch that her husband, who is a Border Patrol agent, had poured hot coffee on her. She said her husband was telling her he wanted a divorce and when she ignored him, he allegedly threw the coffee on her to get her attention.
Sheriff Antonio Estrada said the woman suffered minor burning.
It was not immediately clear if Perez has a lawyer.
Contacted for comment on Perez’s status with the Border Patrol, a spokesman at the agency’s Tucson Sector headquarters said he would look into it.
