The Santa Cruz County government now counts on the services of a communications specialist to help keep the community up to date on official information after the board of supervisors approved a cost-sharing agreement with the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District.
Shannon Enciso, a former teacher who started her new position on July 1, is in charge of handling public information for both the county and SCVUSD.
“I think this is a position we’ve needed for a long time, but in light of what’s going on financially with the County, we did not want to bring that on solely as a county expense. I think it really shows good management of resources for us to avoid that,” Supervisor Bruce Bracker said during a meeting Wednesday at which the board approved the shared position.
Enciso started the job with a yearly wage of $34,564. The county is responsible for 40 percent of her salary, while SCVUSD will handle the rest, County Manager Jennifer St. John told the NI.
“The county is doing a lot of great things right now and people get so busy, so we can’t get it out to the public,” Supervisor Rudy Molera said. “Now we’ll have someone who’s able to report the good things we’re doing here in the County and disseminate information to the public a lot easier.”
