Hell's Gate Fire

A wildfire burning in a remote area of the Tumacacori Mountains was “not showing much activity” on Wednesday, the Coronado National Forest said in a Facebook post.

The Hell's Gate Fire at the north end of the mountain range was lined with retardant, the CNF said, and crews were shuttled in Wednesday morning to “construct/strengthen fire line and work on hot spots.”

While initially estimated at 600 acres in size, that number has now been downgraded to 350 acres.

Lightning has been present in the area, but the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
