Up to 100 families will benefit from a food drive organized by Nogales Mayor Octavio Garcia-Von Borstel.
The month-long effort collected non-perishable foods, ham, and turkey for families that are in need and may not be able to put food on the table this holiday season. Food baskets will be distributed to selected families on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
The mayor said he wants the drive to become an annual event of the holiday season. “It gives us all the chance to remember once again that it's better to give than to receive.
“As we enter this holiday season, I was very proud to see students and families dropping off their donations,” he said. “No, this effort won’t solve this national financial crisis. But, we can pull together as a community to lend a hand. It is the least we can do for our families in need.”
Ofelia McCullough, the city’s spokesperson said up to 100 families will receive food. Any food not distributed will be donated to other charities, she said.
