The naïveté and lack of common sense of our Santa Cruz County supervisors is astonishing.

As reported in the Nov. 14 edition (“County contributes $250K for cold rooms at port”), produce industry representative Lance Jungmeyer convinced the board of supervisors to give that very lucrative industry a quarter-million-dollar gift, otherwise the industry will have to fold its tents and move to McAllen, Texas.

This gift is perhaps the slickest GoFundMe scam ever.

Idealism by the supervisors is understandable, but in this case it’s inexcusable. The only good that may come from this issue is the revelation that this batch of supervisors has supervised long enough.
