Nancy Rodriguez scored 34 points to lead visiting Douglas High School past the Nogales Lady Apaches 68-46 in a girls basketball matchup Monday in Nogales.
The visitors led from start to finish, widening their advantage at the end of each quarter from six, to 11, to 19 to a final margin of 22 points.
The loss left the Lady Apaches with a 3-4 regular season record (1-1 in section play). The Bulldogs raised their regular season mark to 4-2 and 1-0 in Division II, Section II play.
Czarina Lorta led Nogales with 16 points, followed by Marissa Parra, who came off the bench to score 9, all in the second half. Frances Estrada and Jessica Gradillas added 8 points each.
On the defensive side, Gradillas corralled 13 rebounds and Lorta had 5 steals. The NHS defense had no answer for Rodriguez, however, who scored on drives to the basket and from beyond the arc. She finished with 8 two-point baskets, 5 three-pointers and 3 made free throws.
The Lady Apaches’ next game is Friday, Dec. 19 against Buena High School in Sierra Vista.
