Intermediate All-Stars poised for West Regionals

The Nogales Intermediate Division All-Stars are set to play host to the West Regional Tournament after winning the Arizona District 8 championship in two games against Sierra Vista.

Alek Felix went 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs and five RBIs as the Nogales team took the first game of the best-of-three series 14-2 on June 27, according to a game summary at GameChanger.com.

Carlos Peralta pitched a complete game to earn the win.

The following day, the Nogalians wrapped up the district title with a 7-1 win. Peralta went 5-for-5 at the plate and Salvador Valenzuela pitched six strong innings while also getting three hits.

The team will now bypass the state tournament and advance directly to the Intermediate Division West Regional, set to run July 17-25 at Fleischer Park in Nogales.

The Intermediate Division is for youth ages 11-13.

Senior All-Stars head to state tournament

The Nogales Little League Senior Division All-Stars advanced to the state tournament after sweeping the Arizona District 8 playoffs against Sierra Vista last week.

The Nogales squad took the first game of the best-of-three series on June 21 at Arbenz Field in Sierra Vista by a score of 14-0, according to a game summary posted at GameChanger.com.

Demetrio Crisantes led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and five RBIs.

Albert Domingues was the winning pitcher. He struck out three, walked none and allowed just one hit in four innings of work.

Nogales finished off the sweep on June 24, winning 13-2 in five innings.

Pablo Araujo and Brian Garcia each had two hits and four RBIs, and Araujo, Crisantes and Saul Soto all belted home runs.

Soto pitched five innings for the win, striking out seven batters while allowing four hits and two runs.

The Nogales All-Stars are scheduled to begin state tournament play on July 5 in Payson.

The Senior Division is for youth ages 13-16.
