The Nogales All-Stars are set to play Sierra Vista in the consolation game of the 2019 Little League Intermediate 50/70 West Regional Tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m. after falling to undefeated Northern California in Wednesday’s semifinal round.
NorCal advanced to the championship game at 8 p.m. Thursday against Alaska, which beat Sierra Vista 10-0 in the other semifinal. The winner advances to the Intermediate 50/70 World Series beginning Sunday in Livermore, Calif.
Both games are at Fleischer Field in Nogales.
It was the second-consecutive shutout for Alaska in the playoff round, after the team from the Abbott-O-Rabbit Little League in Anchorage blanked Hawaii 2-0 on Tuesday.
Northern California, which came into Wednesday’s game 15-0 overall and 5-0 in the West Regional, jumped all over host Nogales, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. After Nogales pushed across a run in the top of the third, NorCal added five in the third and three more in the bottom of the fourth to end the game by the 15-run rule.
Nicky Dachev and Jacob Untalan each had three hits and four RBIs for NorCal, which hails from the Petaluma American Little League.
