Victor Barajas, a senior at Patagonia Union High School, signed a letter of intent Thursday to play basketball next year at Benedictine University at Mesa.
A 6-4 forward, Barajas was named boys player of the year in the 1A Conference Southern Region and second-team all-state after a senior season in which he averaged 21.2 points, 17.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for the PUHS Lobos.
His rebounding average was best in the state and fifth in the entire country, according to MaxPreps.com.
Benedictine University at Mesa is a branch campus of Illinois-based Benedictine University, a Roman Catholic institution. Its Red Hawks basketball team participates in the 12-school California Pacific Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Last year, the Red Hawks were 18-12 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
