A team of 8-to-10-year-old softball players represented Nogales National Little League at the Arizona District 8 playoffs last week in Bisbee, coming up short in two games.
The Nogales All-Stars opened the tournament on June 25, when they were shut down by eventual district champions Willcox.
In their next game on June 26, the team faced off against San Pedro, and after giving up four runs in the top of the first, they bounced back in the bottom half of the frame with seven of their own.
When San Pedro scored another eight runs in the top of the second to take the lead 12-7, Nogales came back once again, scoring six times to go go back in front, 13-12.
But the game got out of hand in the top of the third when San Pedro put up 18 runs. Nogales answered with just one and the game was called by the 10-run rule after three innings.
Zendy Peralta was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Nogales offense. Mariana Rodriguez had a triple and three RBIs and Victoria Madrid scored three runs, according to a game summary at GameChanger.com.
