The Sonoita-Elgin Fire District is looking for people interested in becoming career firefighters to participate in its volunteer program.
Volunteers are assigned to a shift to work along SEFD firefighters and develop skills needed for a career in the fire service. They will respond to calls, participate in training and perform other duties as directed, the district said in an announcement posted July 11 to its Facebook page.
In addition to on-the-job training, benefits for volunteers include uniforms and a monthly stipend of up to $560.
“The underlying philosophy of the program is to provide all volunteers with the opportunity to serve the Sonoita-Elgin Fire District and community, while furthering their personal or career development goals,” the announcement said.
Participants must be EMT certified, 18 or older, have a high school diploma and valid driver’s license, and clear a background check. They must also complete medical and physical exams.
